Hits 1 Weekend Countdown - 2021 March 27

This is the 13th countdown of 2021 and the final one in March and the first quarter. Last week, Drivers License was #1 for the fourth week in a row. It is now the outright the top song of 2021 with four week at #1. Will it extend its time at #1? Scroll down to find out.

This week, there are 3 songs entering and 3 leaving. Joshua Bassett's "Lie Lie Lie" (was #9), Sigala/James Arthur's "Lasting Lover" (#19), and 24kGoldn's "3,2,1" (#26) are all leaving the countdown. Joshua Bassett sets a new record on the countdown for the highest ranking song to fall out of the countdown from one week to the next. The previous record was the number 13 position for Ariana Grande's "34+35" just two weeks ago on March 13. Of those 3, "Lasting Lover" was the oldest song, being on the countdown since its premiere on January 1st.

The 3 new songs are "Too Late" by Cash Cash/Wiz Khalifa/Lucas Graham, "First Time" by Illenium/Iann Dior, and "Peaches" by Justin Bieber/Daniel Caesar/Giveon. They are debuting at number 30, 28, and 23, respectively. "Peaches" is the only one of the 3 to skip Hit-Bound and go directly to the Weekend Countdown.

For the 27 existing songs, none are staying in place and 2 are moving up by only 1 spot. So 24 (88%) of those 27 songs moved by more than 1 spot. Of those, 11 dropped down in position with an average decrease of -6.6. The other 13 moved up with an average increase of +7.5. Average movement on the chart overall was +1.0 spots.

Of note are the biggest drops this year for songs on the chart. The biggest drop was "Monsters" from All Time Low which dropped 20 spots from #4 to #24. The next biggest drop was Harry Style's "Golden" which fell 19 spots from #2 all the way down to #21. After those songs, the next drops in position were by 7 spots or less.

The jumps in the chart this week weren't as extreme but there were many more songs that jumped between 10 and 12 spots. The biggest jump is tied between AJR's "Way Less Sad" and Silk Sonic's "Leave The Door Open", which each rose 12 spots. AJR rose from #25 to #13 and Silk Sonic from #28 to #16. The other two double digit jumps were Ashe/Finneas' "Till Forever Falls Apart", up 11 spots from #20 to #9; and Dua Lipa's "We're Good", up 10 spots from #17 to #7.

The fourth column in the table shows a song's change in rankings compared to last week. Songs with no change have a 0. New songs have a dash (-).

An interesting note, this week I noticed at least 2 slip-ups on the countdown that referred to its former number of songs, 45. In the first part of the intro Spyder Harrison said, "Before we get to this week's fresh 45..." and there was an automated ident that said, "The 45 biggest hits in North America." It is likely these are just mistakes, but it would be nice to get back to 45 songs, even if it was 3 hours in length. It might be a tight fit with the current average of 15 songs/hour, but in 2.5 hours they might be able to cover 40 songs. This week, there are 2 songs entering and leaving.
