Hits 1 Weekend Countdown - 2021 May 29

Hello everyone, I am back! Don't worry, I've been recording and keeping track of both countdowns throughout the summer in my spreadsheet. Starting with the June 5th Weekend Countdown, I'll be directly embedding part of the spreadsheet I am using. This should greatly reduce the time to post each week's countdowns, since I don't have to copy and paste every single cell (90 cells per Weekend Countdown). I will also not be posting all of the audio clips until later. I have them all recorded but I have to sort through about 300 clips and then edit them. To keep with the chronological postings on this blog, I will be backdating all posts until I am caught up. Now, on with the countdown:

This is the 22nd countdown of 2021 on Memorial Day weekend. Last week, Taylor Swift's "Mr. Perfectly Fine" held the #1 spot for a second week in a row. Will it continue to be #1 for a third week in a row or will there be a 9th different #1 song in 2021? Scroll down to find out.

This week, there are 5 songs entering and leaving. The 5 leaving are: "Treat People With Kindness" from Harry Styles (was #27), "Lil Bit" from Nelly/Florida Georgia Line (was #26), "Patience" from KSI/YUNGBLUD/Polo G (was #24), "Overdrive" from Conan Gray (was #23), and finally "The Eulogy of You and Me" from Lil Huddy (was #17).

The 4 new songs are: "Butter" from BTS at #28, "good 4 u" from Olivia Rodrigo at #26, "Leave Before You Love Me" from Marshmello/Jonas Brothers at #25, and "Build A Bitch" from Bella Poarch at #24. The other song is a returning song, "First Time" from Illenium/Iann Dior at #22. It is returning 1 spot higher then when it was at #23 on April 17, its last week on the countdown.

For the 25 existing songs, 6 are staying in place and 6 are moving up or down by only 1 spot [3 down and 3 up]. So only 13 (52%) of those 25 songs moved by more than 1 spot. Of those, 6 dropped down in position with an average decrease of -3.67. The other 7 moved up with an average increase of +4.29. Average movement on the chart excluding songs that moved by 0 or 1 spot was +0.62 spots. Including all 25 existing songs, movement was +0.32 spots.

The biggest drop was "Mr. Perfectly Fine" from Taylor Swift which dropped 7 spots from #1 to #8. So yes, there is a new #1 song this week.

The biggest jump at +9 spots was Ariana Grande's "POV" which went from #15 to #5.

The fourth column in the table shows a song's change in rankings compared to last week. Songs with no change have a 0. New songs have a dash (-).

This is the 14th countdown of 2021 and the first one in April and the second quarter. Last week, Taylor Swift's "willow" ended Drivers License's streak at #1 and became the fifth different song to reach #1 this year. Will it continue to be #1? Scroll down to find out. An interesting note, this week I noticed at least 2 slip-ups on the countdown that referred to its former number of songs, 45. In the first part of the intro Spyder Harrison said, "Before we get to this week's fresh 45..." and there was an automated ident that said, "The 45 biggest hits in North America." It is likely these are just mistakes, but it would be nice to get back to 45 songs, even if it was 3 hours in length. Hits 1 Weekend Countdown - 2021 March 27

This is the 13th countdown of 2021 and the final one in March and the first quarter. Last week, Drivers License was #1 for the fourth week in a row. It is now the outright the top song of 2021 with four week at #1. Will it extend its time at #1? Scroll down to find out. This week, there are 3 songs entering and 3 leaving. Joshua Bassett's "Lie Lie Lie" (was #9), Sigala/James Arthur's "Lasting Lover" (#19), and 24kGoldn's "3,2,1" (#26) are all leaving the countdown. Joshua Bassett sets a new record on the countdown for the highest ranking song to fall out of the countdown from one week to the next. The previous record was the number 13 position for Ariana Grande's "34+35" just two weeks ago on March 13. Of those 3, "Lasting Lover" was the oldest song, being on the countdown since its premiere on January 1st.
