Hits 1 Weekend Countdown - 2021 April 24

This is the 17th countdown of 2021 and the 4rd and final one in April. Last week, "willow" from Taylor Swift was the #1 song for the fourth straight week in a row. Will it continue to be #1 for a fifth week in a row to tie the record so far this year? Scroll down to find out.

This week, there are only 2 songs entering and leaving. "First Time" from Illenium/Iann Dior (was #23) and "Drivers License" from Olivia Rodrigo (#6) are leaving the countdown this week. Olivia Rodrigo's "Drivers License" is now the highest ranking song to drop out of the countdown from one week to the next. The previous record was at the number 8 position. Since leaving the #1 position on March 27, it had been hovering in the top 5 except for last week.

The 2 'new' songs consist of 1 new song and 1 returning song: "Remember That Night?" from Sara Kays is returning to the countdown after leaving last week and "You" from Regard/Troye Sivan/Tate McRae is new to the countdown. Sara Kays is returning at number 28, one spot higher than her initial debut, and "You" is debuting in the final spot, number 30. "Remember That Night?" had been on Hit-Bound for awhile while "You" didn't start on Hit-Bound.

For the 28 existing songs, only 1 is staying in place and 6 are moving up or down by only 1 spot [2 up and 4 down]. So 21 (75%) of those 28 songs moved by more than 1 spot. Of those, 8 dropped down in position with an average decrease of -3.13. The other 13 moved up with an average increase of +4.3.
Average movement on the chart excluding songs that moved by 0 or 1 spot was +1.48 spots. Including all 28 existing songs, movement was +1.04 spots.

The biggest drop was 6 spots, again going to Billie Eilish's song "Therefore I Am" which went from #12 to #18 this week. The next biggest drop was 5 spots for Lil Nas X's "MONTERO" which went from #11 to #16.

The biggest jump at 15 spots went to "deja vu" from Olivia Rodrigo which went from #22 to #7. Last week was its debut week and now it is just 1 spot lower than her other song "Drivers License" was at during its final week on the chart. A 15 spot change is the highest so far in 2021, either moving up or down on the chart. The next biggest jump was 10 spots for Taylor Swifts's "Mr. Perfectly Fine", going from #20 to #10.

An error of note this week, when announcing the #21 spot Spyder Harrison mistakenly said that it was #27. However, later in the last 5 songs recap before #25, he did say the correct number.

The fourth column in the table shows a song's change in rankings compared to last week. Songs with no change have a 0. New songs have a dash (-).

This is the 14th countdown of 2021 and the first one in April and the second quarter. An interesting note, this week I noticed at least 2 slip-ups on the countdown that referred to its former number of songs, 45. In the first part of the intro Spyder Harrison said, "Before we get to this week's fresh 45..." and there was an automated ident that said, "The 45 biggest hits in North America." It is likely these are just mistakes, but it would be nice to get back to 45 songs, even if it was 3 hours in length. It might be a tight fit with the current average of 15 songs/hour, but in 2.5 hours they might be able to cover 40 songs. This week, there are 2 songs entering and leaving. It is now the outright the top song of 2021 with four week at #1. Will it extend its time at #1? Scroll down to find out. This week, there are 3 songs entering and 3 leaving. Joshua Bassett's "Lie Lie Lie" (was #9), Sigala/James Arthur's "Lasting Lover" (#19), and 24kGoldn's "3,2,1" (#26) are all leaving the countdown. Joshua Bassett sets a new record on the countdown for the highest ranking song to fall out of the countdown from one week to the next. The previous record was the number 13 position for Ariana Grande's "34+35" just two weeks ago on March 13. Of those 3, "Lasting Lover" was the oldest song, being on the countdown since its premiere on January 1st.
