Hit-Bound with Mikey Piff - 2021 March 12

This is the 11th posting of Hit-Bound in 2021 and week 51 of the "Hits 1 at Home Edition" of Hit-Bound. Next week will mark one full year since the pandemic forced them to mostly record the show from home. There are the usual 16 'Hit-Bound' songs this week for a total of 20 songs. There are 6 new songs on Hit-Bound this week; many of the songs that are leaving are moving over to the Weekend Countdown. There is 1 re-entry, "Good Days" from SZA which recently dropped out of the Weekend Countdown.

The new songs are "acting like that" from YUNGBLUD & Machine Gun Kelly, "Calling My Phone" from Lil Tjay & 6LACK, "Too Late" from Cash Cash/Wiz Khalifa/Lukas Graham, "Sacrifice" from Bebe Rexha, "2Drunk" from Nick Jonas, and "slower" from Tate McRae.

The 7 songs leaving Hit-Bound are "CHEERS" from Blackbear & Wiz Khalifa, "Forget Me Too" from Machine Gun Kelly & Halsey, "3,2,1" from 24kGoldn, "too many feelings" from Ruel, "Talk About Love" from Zara Larsson & Young Thug, "Cry Over Boys" from Alexander 23, and finally "Astronaut In The Ocean" from Masked Wolf.

Of those 7 songs leaving, 3 are moving over, or graduating, from Hit-Bound to the Weekend Countdown with Spyder Harrison. Those are Masked Wolf's "Astronaut In The Ocean", 24kGoldn's "3,2,1", and Machine Gun Kelly/Halsey's "Forget Me Too". Additionally, Lil Huddy's "The Eulogy of You" which left last week (March 5) has made it to the Weekend Countdown this week.

Again, just like the past 4 weeks, "Hits 1 To Watch" Jessia has her song "I'm not Pretty" play first on Hit-Bound and is still on the show even though she made it to the Weekend Countdown. Air play of her song on Hits 1 has still remained consistently frequent, at least once every hour it seems. I guess the "Hits 1 To Watch" designation lasts for around 6-8 weeks.

Of special note, Imagine Dragons' new song "Follow You" was unofficially on Hit-Bound this week since Mikey Piff introduced it after Hit-Bound formally ended. This is the 14th countdown of 2021 and the first one in April and the second quarter. Last week, Taylor Swift's "willow" ended Drivers License's streak at #1 and became the fifth different song to reach #1 this year. Will it continue to be #1? Scroll down to find out. An interesting note, this week I noticed at least 2 slip-ups on the countdown that referred to its former number of songs, 45. In the first part of the intro Spyder Harrison said, "Before we get to this week's fresh 45..." and there was an automated ident that said, "The 45 biggest hits in North America." It is likely these are just mistakes, but it would be nice to get back to 45 songs, even if it was 3 hours in length. Hits 1 Weekend Countdown - 2021 March 27

This is the 13th countdown of 2021 and the final one in March and the first quarter. Last week, Drivers License was #1 for the fourth week in a row. It is now the outright the top song of 2021 with four week at #1. Will it extend its time at #1? Scroll down to find out. This week, there are 3 songs entering and 3 leaving. Joshua Bassett's "Lie Lie Lie" (was #9), Sigala/James Arthur's "Lasting Lover" (#19), and 24kGoldn's "3,2,1" (#26) are all leaving the countdown. Joshua Bassett sets a new record on the countdown for the highest ranking song to fall out of the countdown from one week to the next. The previous record was the number 13 position for Ariana Grande's "34+35" just two weeks ago on March 13. Of those 3, "Lasting Lover" was the oldest song, being on the countdown since its premiere on January 1st.
