Hit-Bound with Mikey Piff - 2021 April 16

This is the 16th posting of Hit-Bound in 2021 and week 56 of the "Hits 1 at Home Edition" of Hit-Bound. Last week was week 55 for the 'at home edition' but for some reason Mikey Piff said 55 again in this week's intro. Mikey Piff was off all this past week from his nightly DJ hosting but he did this pre-recorded Hit-Bound episode as usual. This week, there was a reduction in the number of songs by 1 to bring the total to 19. There are 3 new songs and 1 returning song to Hit-Bound this week.

Among the 3 new songs is "Wave Of You" from Surfaces, which was unofficially on Hit-Bound last week as it played immediately after Hit-Bound ended. The other two new songs are "Hold On" from Justin Bieber and "STOP" from AJ Mitchell. The one returning song is "Remember That Night?" from Sara Kays. It was only on the Weekend Countdown for one week last week at number 29.

Surface's song "Wave Of You" is also being featured as the Weekend Countdown Extra for this week. This is the third week in a row that a song on Hit-Bound is the Countdown Extra.

The 4 songs leaving Hit-Bound are "deja vu" by Olivia Rodrigo, "Mr. Perfectly Fine (Taylor’s Version)" from Taylor Swift, "Fly Away" from Tones & I, and "Sucks Being Sober" from Annika Wells. Lil Huddy's song is also 'leaving' Hit-Bound as it is no longer being played at the start of the show. This may mean there will be a new Hits 1 To Watch -- Lil Huddy started being featured on March 17.

"deja vu" and "Mr. Perfectly Fine" were only on Hit-Bound for 1 week but will both move over to the Weekend Countdown. The other two songs are not moving over. "Fly Away" moved back to Hit-Bound after falling out of the Weekend Countdown two weeks ago; "Sucks Being Sober" was never really played much on the channel outside of Hit-Bound.

New songs will have a plus [+] at the end of their listing. Returning songs will have a [R]. Non-Hit-Bound songs will be colored purple, these are the songs after the announcement "Hit-Bound stops to play this moment's most Wutchuwanted song."

This is the 14th countdown of 2021 and the first one in April and the second quarter. Last week, Taylor Swift's "willow" ended Drivers License's streak at #1 and became the fifth different song to reach #1 this year. Will it continue to be #1? Scroll down to find out. An interesting note, this week I noticed at least 2 slip-ups on the countdown that referred to its former number of songs, 45. In the first part of the intro Spyder Harrison said, "Before we get to this week's fresh 45..." and there was an automated ident that said, "The 45 biggest hits in North America." It is likely these are just mistakes, but it would be nice to get back to 45 songs, even if it was 3 hours in length. This is the 13th countdown of 2021 and the final one in March and the first quarter. Last week, Drivers License was #1 for the fourth week in a row. It is now the outright the top song of 2021 with four week at #1. Will it extend its time at #1? Scroll down to find out. This week, there are 3 songs entering and 3 leaving. Joshua Bassett's "Lie Lie Lie" (was #9), Sigala/James Arthur's "Lasting Lover" (#19), and 24kGoldn's "3,2,1" (#26) are all leaving the countdown. Joshua Bassett sets a new record on the countdown for the highest ranking song to fall out of the countdown from one week to the next. The previous record was the number 13 position for Ariana Grande's "34+35" just two weeks ago on March 13. Of those 3, "Lasting Lover" was the oldest song, being on the countdown since its premiere on January 1st.
