Hits 1 Weekend Countdown

This is the 14th countdown of 2021 and the first one in April and the second quarter. Last week, Taylor Swift's "willow" ended Drivers License's streak at #1 and became the fifth different song to reach #1 this year. Will it continue to be #1? Scroll down to find out.

An interesting note, this week I noticed at least 2 slip-ups on the countdown that referred to its former number of songs, 45. In the first part of the intro Spyder Harrison said, "Before we get to this week's fresh 45..." and there was an automated ident that said, "The 45 biggest hits in North America." It is likely these are just mistakes, but it would be nice to get back to 45 songs, even if it was 3 hours in length. It might be a tight fit with the current average of 15 songs/hour, but in 2.5 hours they might be able to cover 40 songs.

This week, there are 2 songs entering and leaving. Tones and I's "Fly Away" (was #27) and Harry Style's "Golden" (#21) are leaving the countdown. Golden had a rapid exit from the chart, just two weeks ago (March 20) it was in the #2 spot. A month before that, on February 20th, it was in the #1 spot. Golden had been on the countdown since December.

The 2 new songs are "Patience" by KSI/YUNGBLUD/Polo G and "POV" by Ariana Grande. They are debuting at number 30 and 18, respectively. Both songs were on Hit-Bound last week and "Patience" was last week's Weekend Countdown Extra.

For the 28 existing songs, 7 are staying in place and 8 are moving up or down by only 1 spot [5 down and 3 up]. So only 13 (46%) of those 28 songs moved by more than 1 spot. Of those, 5 dropped down in position with an average decrease of -6.5. The other 8 moved up with an average increase of +4.1. Average movement on the chart excluding songs that moved by 0 or 1 spot was +0.15 spots. Including all 28 existing songs, movement was 0 spots.

While not as big as the drops last week on the chart, the biggest drop was "My Ex's Best Friend" from Machine Gun Kelly/Blackbear which dropped 12 spots from #10 to #22. The next biggest drop was "Levitating" from Dua Lipa featuring DaBaby which fell 9 spots from #18 to #27. Both songs had been experiencing steady declines over the past 4 weeks.

Jumps in the chart this week were fairly limited, aside from the following 3 the highest a song moved was +2 spots. The biggest jump at +8 spots is a tie between Masked Wolf's "Astronaut In The Ocean" and Machine Gun Kelly & Halsey's "Forget Me Too." "Astronaut In The Ocean" rose from #29 to #21 and "Forget Me Too" from #17 to #9. The other jump above +2 was Ritt Momney's "Put Your Records On" which rose +7 spots from #22 to #15.

Finally, this week there were a lot of songs that stayed in their same spot. Five of the seven songs with no movement were right after each other, from number 8 to number 4. The other two were #11 and #1. The top 8 songs (#8 to #1) were the same as last week except #3 and #2 swapped positions.

The fourth column in the table shows a song's change in rankings compared to last week. Songs with no change have a 0. New songs have a dash (-).
