Hits 1 Weekend Countdown - 2021 April 10

This is the 15th countdown of 2021 and 2nd in April. Last week, "willow" from Taylor Swift was the #1 song for the second straight week in a row. Will it continue to be #1 for a third week in a row? Scroll down to find out.

This week, there are 4 songs entering and leaving. "Monsters" from All Time Low/Demi Lovato/Blackbear (was #29), "Levitating" from Dua Lipa featuring DaBaby (#27), "My Ex's Best Friend" from Machine Gun Kelly/Blackbear (#22), and "Put Your Records On" from Ritt Momney (#15) are all leaving the countdown this week. All songs except for Ritt Momney's song had experienced declines in the last week they were on the countdown. "Monsters dropped 5 spots, "Levitating" dropped 9 spots, and "My Ex's Best Friend" dropped 12 spots in their last week on the chart. Ritt Momney's song had jumped up 7 spots in its final week on the chart.

The 4 new songs are "Calling My Phone" from Lil Tjay/6LACK, "Remember That Night?" from Sara Kays, "Once In A Lifetime" from All Time Low, and "MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)" from Lil Nas X. They are debuting at number 30, 29, 27, and 22 respectively. All of the songs were on Hit-Bound last week and "Once In A Lifetime" was last week's Countdown Extra. "Once In A Lifetime" and "MONTERO" were only on Hit-Bound for one week before jumping over to the weekend countdown. Sara Kays' song had been on Hit-Bound the longest and if I'm not mistaken, she was the Hits 1 To Watch artist in either December 2020 or January 2021.

For the 26 existing songs, only 2 are staying in place and 4 are moving up or down by only 1 spot [2 up and 2 down]. So 20 (77%) of those 26 songs moved by more than 1 spot. I believe that's the highest percentage so far this year. Of those, 6 dropped down in position with an average decrease of -5.8. The other 14 moved up with an average increase of +3.6. Average movement on the chart excluding songs that moved by 0 or 1 spot was +0.75 spots. Including all 26 existing songs, movement was +0.58 spots.

The biggest drop was 8 spots, tied between two songs: "I'm not Pretty" from Jessia (#13 to #21) and "Save Your Tears" from The Weeknd (#3 to #11). The next biggest drop was 7 spots: "We're Good" from Dua Lipa which went from #7 to #14.

The biggest jump at 6 spots was another tie between two songs, which were also right next to each other: "WITHOUT YOU" from The Kid LAROI went from #19 to #13, and "POV" from Ariana Grande went from #18 to #12. The next biggest jump was 5 spots which was a tie between three songs, including another pair: "The Eulogy of You" from Lil Huddy and "What You Know Bout Love" from Pop Smoke were #24 and #23 last week and improved to #19 and #18 this week, respectively. "Till Forever Falls Apart" from Ashe/Finneas went from #12 to #7.

The fourth column in the table shows a song's change in rankings compared to last week. Songs with no change have a 0. New songs have a dash (-).

An interesting note, this week I noticed at least 2 slip-ups on the countdown that referred to its former number of songs, 45. In the first part of the intro Spyder Harrison said, "Before we get to this week's fresh 45..." and there was an automated ident that said, "The 45 biggest hits in North America." It is likely these are just mistakes, but it would be nice to get back to 45 songs, even if it was 3 hours in length. It might be a tight fit with the current average of 15 songs/hour, but in 2.5 hours they might be able to cover 40 songs. This week, there are 2 songs entering and leaving. This is the 13th countdown of 2021 and the final one in March and the first quarter. Last week, Drivers License was #1 for the fourth week in a row. It is now the outright the top song of 2021 with four week at #1. Will it extend its time at #1? Scroll down to find out. This week, there are 3 songs entering and 3 leaving. Joshua Bassett's "Lie Lie Lie" (was #9), Sigala/James Arthur's "Lasting Lover" (#19), and 24kGoldn's "3,2,1" (#26) are all leaving the countdown. Joshua Bassett sets a new record on the countdown for the highest ranking song to fall out of the countdown from one week to the next. The previous record was the number 13 position for Ariana Grande's "34+35" just two weeks ago on March 13. Of those 3, "Lasting Lover" was the oldest song, being on the countdown since its premiere on January 1st.
