Hit-Bound with Mikey Piff - 2021 May 21

This is the 21st posting of Hit-Bound in 2021 and week 61 of the "Hits 1 at Home Edition" of Hit-Bound. There is finally a new Hits 1 To Watch artist, Jax, and her featured song is "90s Kids". I personally think this is the best Hits 1 To Watch Artist (and associated song) they have ever picked thus far. In addition to Jax's song, there are 2 new songs and 1 returning song to Hit-Bound this week.

The two other new songs are "Higher Power" from Coldplay, and "I DID IT" from DJ Khaled, Megan Thee Stallion, etc. Lil Tjay and 6LACK's song "Calling My Phone" is returning to Hit-Bound after falling out of the countdown last week. There is also 1 song version update: "The Girl From Rio (Remix)" adds DaBaby to Anitta's song.

Coldplay's "Higher Power" actually skipped Hit-Bound and went directly to the Weekend Countdown last week -- but only for one week, as it dropped out of the countdown this week (Saturday, May 22). For the past one to two weeks, it was featured as new music on Hits 1 and I believe Coldplay did an interview with either the Morning Mashup or Tony Fly & Symon.

One of last week's new songs, "Build A Bitch" from Bella Poarch, is also being featured as the Weekend Countdown Extra for this week. This is the 7th week in a row that a song on Hit-Bound is the Countdown Extra. Noteably, this song shows Hits 1's weird approach to song censorship -- which they legally do not have to do at all. Mikey Piff pronounces the title of the song close to "Build a Biish", while Alex D in the Trending Now segment fully pronounces the full name of the song; Spyder Harrison chose to bleep the entire last word in the song title [Build a ~Bleep~]. It is odd that for some songs Hits 1 allows the word bitch to be used without any censorship [example: Bad At Love by Halsey], while it isn't allowed at all for this song. Another example is the word fuck in 24kGoldn/Iann Dior's "Mood" which was minimally edited so that the lyric sounds like "f'cking around acting brand new." I really wish Hits 1 would go completely uncensored or at least offer a simulcast feed that is uncensored.

The 3 songs leaving Hit-Bound are "In The Water" from CAL/Quinn XCII, "Met Him Last Night" from Demi Lovato/Ariana Grande, and "STOP" from AJ Mitchell. They were each on Hit-Bound for 5, 6, and 5 weeks respectively.

This is the 14th countdown of 2021 and the first one in April and the second quarter. Last week, Taylor Swift's "willow" ended Drivers License's streak at #1 and became the fifth different song to reach #1 this year. Will it continue to be #1? Scroll down to find out. An interesting note, this week I noticed at least 2 slip-ups on the countdown that referred to its former number of songs, 45. In the first part of the intro Spyder Harrison said, "Before we get to this week's fresh 45..." and there was an automated ident that said, "The 45 biggest hits in North America." It is likely these are just mistakes, but it would be nice to get back to 45 songs, even if it was 3 hours in length. Hits 1 Weekend Countdown - 2021 March 27

This is the 13th countdown of 2021 and the final one in March and the first quarter. Last week, Drivers License was #1 for the fourth week in a row. It is now the outright the top song of 2021 with four week at #1. Will it extend its time at #1? Scroll down to find out. This week, there are 3 songs entering and 3 leaving. Joshua Bassett's "Lie Lie Lie" (was #9), Sigala/James Arthur's "Lasting Lover" (#19), and 24kGoldn's "3,2,1" (#26) are all leaving the countdown. Joshua Bassett sets a new record on the countdown for the highest ranking song to fall out of the countdown from one week to the next. The previous record was the number 13 position for Ariana Grande's "34+35" just two weeks ago on March 13. Of those 3, "Lasting Lover" was the oldest song, being on the countdown since its premiere on January 1st.
