Hits 1 Weekend Countdown - 2021 May 01
This is the 18th countdown of 2021 and the first in May. Last week, "Overdrive" from Conan Gray took the #1 spot to become the 6th different #1 song of the year. Will it continue to be #1 for a second week in a row? Scroll down to find out.
This week, there are 3 songs entering and leaving. "Too Late" from Cash Cash/Wiz Khalifa/Lucas Graham (was #27), "Therefore I Am" from Billie Eilish (#18), and "You Broke Me First" from Tate McRae (#12) are leaving the countdown this week. "Too Late" is moving back to Hit-Bound and here on the Weekend Countdown it never went above #26. "Therefore I Am" had been falling since reaching its peak of #3 on April 10. Tate McRae's song "You Broke Me First" had been on the countdown since early December and was consistently in the top 10. It never went below #12 until it dropped out this week; it peaked at #4 on April 3.
The 3 new songs are: "Lil Bit" from Nelly/Florida Georgia Line (at #30), "Wave Of You" from Surfaces (#28), and "Follow You" from Imagine Dragons (#14). "Lil Bit" skipped Hit-Bound altogether while "Wave Of You" was on there for 2 weeks (3 unofficially).
Imagine Dragons' song is making a strong debut at #14, one of the highest debuts on the countdown. This is quite surprising given that it fell off Hit-Bound after being there for only one week (March 19) and didn't receive much air time for 2 weeks. It returned to Hit-Bound 2 weeks later on April 9 and was there for 2 more weeks before coming to the Weekend Countdown this week.
For the 27 existing songs, 5 are staying in place and only 3 are moving up or down by only 1 spot [1 up and 2 down]. So 19 (70%) of those 27 songs moved by more than 1 spot.
Of those, 6 dropped down in position with an average decrease of -6.67. The other 13 moved up with an average increase of +4.3, the same average increase as last week.
Average movement on the chart excluding songs that moved by 0 or 1 spot was +0.84 spots. Including all 27 existing songs, movement was +0.55 spots.
The biggest drop was 19 spots, for last week's #2 song "willow" from Taylor Swift. Just two weeks ago, it was the #1 song. It has been on the countdown since Christmas weekend where it debuted at #15; it had not gone below that position until now. Judging from the volatility of past top songs, it will likely fall out of the countdown next week. A 19 spot drop is the second highest movement on the chart, behind only a 20 spot drop (for "Monsters" from March 20 to 27).
The next biggest drop was 6 spots for The Weeknd's song "Save Your Tears" which went from #9 to #18. It has been on the countdown since early December and had mostly been in the top 10 since February 20. It peaked at #2 on March 27.
The biggest jump at 9 went to "MONTERO" from Lil Nas X which went from #16 to #7. It had previously peaked at #11 on April 17, one week after its debut on the countdown.
The next biggest jump was 6 spots for 3 songs, including a pair of songs, "Peaches" from Justin Bieber/Daniel Caesar/Giveon and "Astronaut In The Ocean" from Masked Wolf. They went from #22 and #21 to #16 and #15, respectively. Taylor Swift's song "Mr. Perfectly Fine" also jumped 6 spots, from #10 to #4. It debuted just 3 weeks ago (April 17) at #20.
The fourth column in the table shows a song's change in rankings compared to last week. Songs with no change have a 0. New songs have a dash (-).
